Xeros Piccolo Consulting Engineers were engaged by Zauner Construction to provide full civil and structural engineering design services for the new basketball stadium at Murrumbidgee Regional High School. The project required a robust and highly functional design solution to support a large-scale sporting facility while meeting performance, durability, and architectural requirements.

 

The structural scope included the design of waffle pod slab foundations with a high level of detailing to achieve the stringent flatness and finish tolerances required for specialist basketball flooring systems. Particular attention was given to slab performance and long-term serviceability to ensure suitability for competitive sporting use.

 

The superstructure comprised large-span portal frames, enabling a clear-span roof over the courts to provide unobstructed playing areas. In addition, substantial transfer trusses were incorporated to create large openings within the building envelope, supporting flexibility in internal layout and circulation while maintaining structural efficiency.

 

As part of the design, Xeros Piccolo Consulting Engineers specified the use of innovative pod void formers, delivering an environmentally sustainable outcome through reduced material usage. These systems also improved handling, construction efficiency, and overall buildability on site, contributing to a streamlined construction programme.

 

The integrated civil and structural design approach ensured the stadium met the school’s functional needs, construction objectives, and sustainability goals, resulting in a high-quality sporting facility delivered efficiently and cost-effectively.
